Visitors to the Florida Keys and Key West will be spoilt for choice in 2015
16th to 22nd February: Winter Star Party
Big Pine and the Lower Keys welcomes up to 600 astronomers from around the world to view southern constellations, comets and stars in the Lower Keys' clear night skies. This is virtually the only place in the continental U.S. where they can be viewed. There will be lectures, programs and workshops taking place throughout the event.
7th March: Conch Shell Blowing Contest in Key West.
An island tradition for more than 50 years, this unique event celebrates the historic importance of conch in the Keys, where the far-reaching sounds from conch shells were used by the Calusa Indians to communicate with each other. The idea is that contestants attempt to make ‘music’ with fluted conch shells!
The event is FREE and open to children and adults of all ages.
14th to 15th March: The Original Marathon Seafood Festival.
One of the Middle Keys’ signature events and featuring gourmet delicacies from the fabulous waters of the Florida Keys. Sample delicious lobster tails, stone crab, fish and shrimp. This event is ideal for families and offers live music and a children’s play area, including a climbing wall. Plenty of shopping opportunities are available with stalls offering jewelry, clothing, arts and crafts and souvenirs for visitors to purchase. The annual weekend event attracts around 20,000 visitors to Marathon Community Park.
