The New Alpine Skills weekend hosted in North Wales will be the first ever UK-based Mountain Tracks course and aims to provide an introduction to mountaineering skills for those keen to learn more about the alpine environment.
The courses are ideal for enthusiastic hikers, hill walkers and outdoorsy families interested in learning new climbing and scrambling skills and for those looking to progress onto trekking and mountaineering trips to the Alps or other mountain ranges. The entry-level course requires no previous climbing experience, although a basic level of fitness and head for heights is recommended.
Mountain Tracks work with a core hub of excellent guides, the majority of which hold the prestigious IFMGA Mountain Guides qualification* and are members of the British Mountain Guides Association. Over the weekend course the team of IFMGA Mountain Guides and Mountain Leaders will pass on their skills and knowledge and ensure participants have a fun, informative and safe experience.
Mountain Tracks offer trips that are suitable for everyone from alpine novices exploring the mountains for the first time to experienced skiers and mountaineers striving for the ultimate challenge. Better known for their core winter product, Mountain Tracks were recently purchased by the Ski Club of Great Britain to compliment the portfolio of high quality ski holidays delivered by Ski Club Freshtracks**. The new entry-level alpine skills course in the UK aims to expand the summer adventure options and make them more accessible.
The weekend itinerary will cover a variety of skills from scrambling, hiking, climbing and roping-up and provides training advice on route navigation, decision-making, altitude acclimatisation, mountain safety, fitness and kit. Scheduled courses will run throughout the summer in May, June, July and August. Independent dates can also be arranged for private groups of three or more people.
The Mountain Tracks Alpine Skills weekend costs £375 per person and includes two days with highly skilled mountain guides and two nights accommodation on a bed and breakfast basis (twin-share). A course-only price of £275 per person is also available. Scheduled course dates commence: 26 May, 16 June, 7 July and 18 August 2017. Private group trips are available to book from early May until late September.
