Half term will soon be upon us and planning a few activities ensures a fun time for families and happy children. The Visit England website (www.visitengland.com) lists numerous events around the country and makes a good excuse for a weekend away.

11th to 14th February
Wrap up warm and get ready to enjoy a weekend by the sea. This four day event celebrates magic, variety and live performances ideal for families. With entertaining street theatre and sideshows there will be much laughter. An especial highlight is the UK's most flexible contortionist Pixie Le Knot, the girl in the goldfish bowl and even the headless lady! Many of the events are FREE.
Check out St. Ives hotel in St. Annes which combines panoramic sea views and family friendly facilities. It is good to see reduced rates for children over the half term are available, from £67 B&B.
Oriental magic: Isle of Wight
27th January to 26th February (weekends only)
Evenings will take on a new meaning as the stunning spectacle of oriental themed light takes effect in the Electric Woods. Visitors can admire a vibrant selection of multi-coloured lanterns, flags and features bringing the ancient woodland to life and capture the true theme of Chinese New Year.
£12.50 per person, or £46 for a saver ticket (4 people). Under 4’s FREE.
Pearly snowdrop planting: Northumberland
18th to 26th February
A huge planting effort is planned at Wallington, Northumberland. The gardening teams challenge is to plant an awesome 100,000 snowdrop bulbs and visitors are invited to help.
Families can dirty their hands and engage with nature to plant as many bulbs as possible. This will make the snowdrop walk a magnificent experience!.
