In the lead up to the Mayflower 400 commemorations in 2020 there will be a host of new attractions, upgraded travel links, shopping and accommodation to look forward to in Plymouth. The city will see a £34 million major re-development of the city’s museums and galleries, alongside investment in new hotels including a 5 star boutique hotel on Plymouth Hoe, a £43 million refurbishment of Plymouth’s railway station and a £40 million major retail development.

Flavour Fest

The south west’s largest food and drink festival returns to the city centre Piazza from Friday 2 to Sunday 4 June 2017.

Now in its fourteenth year Flavour Fest will see Plymouth Piazza transformed with stalls brimming with local delicacies, live music and a marquee bar. With more than 100 traders showcasing the best regional produce - as well as cookery demonstrations from talented local and celebrity chefs – don’t miss the 2016 Great British Bake Off Winner Candice Brown appearing in the cookery theatre on Saturday 3 June at 1pm.

Plymouth Armed Forces Day

Saturday 24 June

Plymouth Hoe

Plymouth’s spectacular Armed Forces Day, in association with Babcock, will be returning on Saturday 24 June. This year’s family-friendly event looks set to attract more than 45,000 people to Plymouth Hoe, as it promises to deliver a whole host of exciting and exhilarating displays, interactive activities, military bands, parades, live music and a not to be missed air display featuring exhilarating and awe inspiring formations.

Military hardware including weapons displays, static helicopters, military vehicles and equipment will also be on show as well as the popular and exciting arena programme. One of the highlights this year is the Junior and Senior Field Gun competitions featuring HMNB Devonport and HMS Ocean.

The Royal Navy, Army, RAF, Royal Marines and Veterans’ organisations, charities and the Emergency Services will all be showcasing their services in a variety of ‘Villages’ set out across the Hoe. It is expected more than 120 exhibitors will be on display and organisers hope more people than ever before will come along and enjoy the day.

Headlining the evening concert will be 80’s favourite Toyah Willcox; popular South West band, Joey the Lips will also be performing, as well as the Harmonettes and the Function Band of the Royal Marines.

MTV Crashes Plymouth

Plymouth Hoe

MTV Crashes Plymouth, now in its fourth year, is still growing and has seen thousands of people enjoy chart-topping headline acts on Plymouth Hoe for a fraction of the cost of other UK festivals.  Taking place on the evenings of Thursday 27  and Friday 28 July this is one of the biggest music events in the South West.

Day One includes performances by chart toppers Sigma (who will be playing a full live set) and pop princess Louisa Johnson. If that isn’t enough excitement Club MTV on Day Two will see international superstar DJ Martin Garrix hitting the stage, club MTV favourites R3WIRE & Varski, DnB master Wilkinson and  dance duo Gorgon City.  More top acts will be announced soon.

Wimbledon on the Big Screen

Monday 3 to Sunday 16 July

City Centre Piazza

Wimbledon returns once again to the Big Screen, where you can enjoy the British summer in front of the greatest players in the world. Taking place from 3 to16 July, the Piazza in Plymouth city centre sees the whole site dressed in artificial grass, with vintage deckchairs, picnic benches, an activity zone and a fantastic range of refreshments. 

Rolex Fastnet Sailing Race

Plymouth Yacht Haven

The world's largest, most prestigious offshore sailing event will take place this summer in the UK with the 47th running of the Rolex Fastnet Race. Boats are anticipated to arrive in Plymouth in time for the British Firework Championships on Wednesday 9 to Thursday 10 August.

The Plymouth Yacht Haven race village will be full of pop-up stalls, retail outlets and live music. The marina will open pontoons to allow visitors to see the boats and soak up the post-race atmosphere.

Plymouth Hoe

The world famous British Firework Championships is set to return to Plymouth's Waterfront from Wednesday 9 to Thursday 10 August 2017.  Now in its 21st year, the event attracts thousands of Plymouth residents and holiday makers alike.

More than four tonnes of fireworks will be set off over Plymouth Sound lighting up the skies as the country’s top pyrotechnics companies battle it out for the coveted national title. Plymouth’s stunning Hoe offers the perfect viewing platform for this truly incredible competition.

Ocean City Blues ‘N’ Jazz Festival

Back for its second year the Ocean City Blues ‘N’ Jazz Festival will see performers from across the city and Devon perform. It will take place on the historic Barbican on Friday 11, Saturday 12 (from 12pm until 10pm) and Sunday 13 August from 12pm until 6pm.
