And in just a few years, Chamonix Valley-Mont Blanc has become a favorite trail running destination (Trail Running Valley), with more and more trail runners from around the world choosing our destination to practice their discipline. Here they find a choice of 18 reserved scenic routes with a variety of elevations and 3 major international races: The Mont Blanc Marathon, The Ultra Trail of Mont Blanc and the Trail of the Aiguilles Rouges.

And this summer, Chamonix Mont-Blanc will be celebrating the 150th anniversary 1865: an eventful year when the Golden Age of Alpinism (1854–1865) reached its climax. This intense period of exploration and adventure was pioneered by the Victorians, along with their invaluable Swiss and Savoyard guides. 1865 was immortalized by 65 first ascents across the Alps and 7 in the Mont-Blanc Massif including the Aiguille Verte, the Grandes Jorasses and the remarkable Brenva Spur on Mont-Blanc!
150th Anniversary 1865 Program
From late June to late October 2015, the Chamonix Valley will offer visitors a variety of events to celebrate the 150th anniversary of 1865 including exhibitions, conferences in both English and French, excursions, mountaineering and hiking organized outings, exhibitions and guided photo walks.
