Close encounters of the bird kind
The “Meet the Burrowers VIP Encounter” is a new feature at the bird of prey visitor and conservation centre and takes participants inside the wonderful world of owls. Inside their special aviary, the team of burrowing owls fly, hover and run around. They even hop on visitors’ hands and pose for some very special selfies as members of the expert bird team provide an intriguing insight into the lives of these special characters.
The 30-minute VIP sessions offer a fascinating and memorable experience and can be booked online in addition to general day admission tickets or they can be purchased on the day if spaces are still available.
Even without the new burrowing owl encounter, a day at the Hawk Conservancy Trust is a packed day out which gives everyone the chance to experience rare birds of prey up close, and watch world-class flying displays in three completely different arenas. These start with the spectacular Wings of Africa display in the summer months*, moving on to the magnificent Valley of the Eagles display and finishing among the trees for an enchanting Woodland Owls display.
In between the displays, visitors can explore 22 acres of woodland and wildflower meadow and discover much more for the whole family. There is an opportunity to fly a Harris’ Hawk for over 14s, a new Dino Trail for children, a themed play area and, at weekends and during school holidays, there are even tractor trailer rides and ferret racing.
