The town starts to warm up for the festive season from 28th November and comes alive with a mix of Christmas lights, entertainment and culture in abundance. Of course, the Penzance locals are proud of the town’s historical past which also plays a unique part in the celebrations.

Old Father Frost and Christmas Market on 3rd December

Inspired by JR Tolkien's letters from Father Christmas, the Christmas Grotto sees Old Father Frost setting up his Christmas scene in an empty furniture shop in Penzance.  Adults can browse in the fabulous Christmas market to pick up gifts.

Tickets for Old Father Frost's Grotto are £4 with concessions available.  The grotto is open every Thursday to Sunday between 3rd and 20th of December at the Causewayhead pop-up shop.

Celebrate Sir Humphry Davy's Birthday on 17th December

Sir Humphry Davy was a local chemist and inventor who designed the miner's safety lamp. In his honour the centre of Penzance will be filled with light as a lantern parade moves through the town to the Market Place.  Participants can view Sir Humphry's statue which will be lit up with a giant Davy Lamp, suspended from Market House. It is sure to be a fun-packed evening with celebrations continuing into the night with music, dancing and a market for Christmas shoppers.
