Knight School at Carisbrooke Castle

From 1st to 9th August

Have you got what it takes to pass Knight School? Join us for a summer of hands on Medieval activities and crafts. Get involved in knight training, etiquette, storytelling and craft throughout the day. Design and paint your own shield or try on a mini harness of knight’s armour.

Hands on History at Belsay Hall, Castle and Gardens

From 27th July to 28th August 

The hands on history crew have a range of medieval activities for you to try. From dressing up, dancing and sword fights and even the chance for children to try a mini suit of armour for size.

Clash of Knights at Beeston Castle

From 22nd to 23rd August

Feel the heat of the battle as four teams fight with clubs and shields in this contest of skill and strength. Tensions will rise, alliances will be made and broken but only one team will triumph. Revel in the atmosphere of the encampment as it buzzes with the activity of everyday medieval life.

Knights Tournament at Framlingham Castle

From 8th to 9th August

Marvel at our noble knights as they take on the ultimate medieval contest.  Soak up the sights and sounds of daily life in a medieval encampment and smell the food cooked on an open fire. Let your little knights feel the weight of real armour and burn off energy in battle drills.

Mini raiders and Invaders at Lindisfarne Priory

From 20th to 23rd August

Calling all mini raiders! Come and invade Lindisfarne Priory on Holy and learn the skills of a Viking warrior. Paint your own shield, have a go in the childrens battle.

Conquest Alive at 1066 Battle of Hastings Abbey and Battlefield

From 1st to 31st August

Step back in England’s story this summer. Explore and question new dimensions on the story of the battle. Kids can train to join the Normans or Saxons, and get creative with craft activities.

WWll Soldiers and Spies at Audley End

From 20th to 31st August

Learn about the D-Day landings and prepare yourself as you are drawn into the theatre of war at Station 43. Fall into step at soldiers school, put on your dancing shoes for 1940s music, fashion and food, and be blown away at the spectacle of the explosive river assault!

1915-Dover at War – Dover Castle

From 1st to 2nd August

Discover the new World War One exhibition.  Visitors can witness the spectacle of the cavalry as they train for the battlefield with sword and rifle. Learn about the first aerial reconnaissance and sit in the incredible replica bi-plane. Enjoy a falconry display and make a traditional Edwardian toy.

Alice and the Magic Mirror at Brodsworth Hall and Gardens

Weekdays throughout August

Enter the magical world of Lewis Carol in this enchanting quest around the Victorian Garden at Brodsworth.  There are 6 magic mirrors to find in keeping with the tale of Alice and a certificate prize for all who complete the quest, as well as traditional Victorian Games to play on the lawn. 

Tales of King Arthur at Tintagel

From 4th to 6th August

Join Merlin and King Arthur on a magical journey into tales of days gone by. Be enchanted as they spin tales of mystery, myth and adventure against the dramatic backdrop which has inspired legends for centuries.
