Tenby Boxing Day Swim, December 2014
You cannot beat a dip in the sea to invigorate the body and clear the mind, but a swim on Boxing Day at Tenby Beach in Pembrokeshire is not for the faint hearted!
There is an even better incentive to strip off because the swim event raises much-needed funds for Tenby’s chosen local charities. The Boxing Day Swim started in 1970 and never fails to attract thousands of spectators, not to mention around 600 mad bathers. Nowadays, a fancy dress theme adds a dash of fun and this year ‘pirates and princesses’ is order of the day.
The choice is simple, either make a run for it and jump into the sea along with the madding crowds, or for the more adventurous why not try raft racing or navigating one’s own canoe?
It is reassuring to know that a roaring bonfire awaits swimmers after their dip and a medal to congratulate them for their efforts. Do not forget to invite your family and friends who will hopefully ensure a hot toddy, or steaming hot chocolate is on hand to rapidly warm you up after your exertions!
