York Minster’s most popular concerts, the Christmas Carol Concerts, take place on 5th - 6th December, followed by a special performance of Handel’s Messiah by the York Minster Choir on 14th December.
York Minster Christmas Carol Concerts are the year’s most popular concerts, featuring the York Minster Choir, one of the UK’s leading choirs and celebrated readers. You will enjoy a wide variety of readings such as Christmas by John Betjeman and December by John Heath Stubbs, there's also an opportunity for the audience to join in and sing some of Britain's favourites carols with the choir, this concert is not to be missed.
The York Minster Choir will perform an additional, special concert this Christmas in the beautiful setting of York Minster’s Nave.
Featuring soloists including Iestyn Davies, Andrew Kennedy and Sarah Fox, the performance of Handel’s world-famous Messiah by one of the UK’s leading choirs promises to be a highlight in the Minster’s musical calendar and an evening not to be missed. The illustrious work was first performed in Dublin in 1742 and has since become one of the best-known and most popular English oratorios. What better way to celebrate Christmas than to experience the story of Christ through this moving and poignant choral performance.
