The Lodge is the realisation of a dream for two traditional Simien mountain guides, who for decades have explored this wonderful environment. Their wish is to share and help preserve the wildlife within the Park which they care so deeply about.
The beautifully designed 14-rooms lodge sets out to lead by example in demonstrating how responsible, sustainable tourism can support conservation. The bulk of the building work has been carried out by construction workers from the Limalimo community and the majority of the staff at the lodge comes from there too.
Food will be purchased locally and a conservation fee from every guest’s overnight stay will be directly invested into conservation of the Park in collaboration with the African Wildlife Foundation to protect its integrity.
The lodge is contemporary and designed to fit in with its natural surroundings by using rammed earth, wood and thatch materials. The en-suite rooms are dotted throughout 10 hectares of deliciously lush landscape. Guests will feel truly away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life in such a tranquil location.
The wildlife is superb around the Lodge and includes the world’s largest population of endemic Gelada Monkey who explore the area. Fabulous birdlife is also in abundance. The neighbouring community who lie at the heart of Limalimo Lodge welcome guests wishing to experience aspects of rural Ethiopian village life, including guided market visits, traditional cookery, farming, beekeeping and beer-making activities.
It is worth noting that traditional foot massage and early morning outdoor yoga sessions are available for guests looking for a little indulgence. The Lodge restaurant serves delicious local food and there is also a bar for guests.
Visitors will fall in love with the Simien Mountains and Limalimo Lodge is simply the perfect base to explore this wondrous landscape.
A stay at the lodge costs from approximately £131 per room per night
