Harrogate town will have many festive highlights for visitors, including a fabulous market, a Santa grotto, craft workshops and even an annual duck race!

Especial gifts will be available to purchase from the Harrogate Christmas Market which takes place from 19th to 22nd November.  This popular event focuses on Yorkshire products, homemade items and Fairtrade goods.  Popular Food & Drink, Crafts & Gifts and a Health & Beauty area, will allow ample shopping opportunities in the run-up to the festive season.

Children can visit the Father Christmas grotto (note: a real reindeer will be accompanying his master in the grotto!) and a fairground for exhilarating times.

Christmas fun

Young children will also adore Storytime with Santa at National Trust’s Beningbrough Hall over 3 weekends in December. Pre-booking is required to join Santa in his accommodation.

Historic Ripley Castle Santa's Grotto takes place on 5th, 6th, 12th, 13th December and daily from 19th to 24th December. Visitors can book online from 1st October.

Fountains Abbey has a packed programme of events including Christmas craft workshops. Visitors can make attractive wreaths and decorations, or join a 12-Days of Christmas Trail, ‘On the Hoof' which offers an opportunity to see wild deer.

Even better, is the Music and Lights event where the whole Fountains Abbey estate is illuminated to celebrate the festive season.  Do not miss the Abbey's wonderful Carols by Candlelight family service taking place on Sunday 7th December, from 3.30pm to 4.15pm.

The market town of Knaresborough hosts two fun post-Christmas events for the family: 26th December Annual Boxing Day Tug of War and on 1st January 2016 there is the Annual Duck Race.
