There is so much to explore including amazing volcanoes, abundant wildlife and numerous new activities to try.  It is just a 4-hours flight from London and Ryanair have just launched weekly flights to the island.

Visitors seeking a unique experience can try stand up paddle boarding inside the crater of a volcano.  Paddle boards are available to rent, or visitors can hire an instructor to explore the turquoise, crystal clear lakes of Sete Cidades

There is also a dip in the lake Furnas included in the itinerary.  Lake Furnas is located next to a traditional Azorean village that live inside the crater of an active volcano.  Holidaymakers can float in the water and admire wondrous views of the surrounding chapels, forest and steaming volcanic fumaroles.

Afterwards bathers can cool off in the volcanic mineral pool of nearby Terra Nostra Park.  The pool is actually heated by the volcano. Local delicacies include Cozido das Furnas, a delicious meat and vegetable stew cooked in the earth (also cooked using the heat generated from the volcano). Guests can try many activities including mountain biking, hiking, canyoning, whale watching and swimming with wild dolphins.

Weekly flights are available from London Stansted to Ponta Delgada, Sao Miguel Island (www.ryanair.com) and depart between April and October.

Stand up paddle boarding lessons at the ‘Sete Cidades’ volcano crater start from £25 per person with Azores Adventure Islands (www.azoresadventureislands.com).
