We recently spent 2 nights at the Washingborough Hall Country Hotel , enjoying both the fantastic facilities the hotel has to offer, and exploring historic Lincoln. We received a warm welcome from the receptionist, immediately helping us begin to relax and enjoy our stay.

Each bedroom is individually designed, with its own distinctive style. Sympathetic to the original Georgian features, our room was luxurious, and came complete with an enormous bathroom, with walk-in power shower and a fabulous free-standing roll-top bath, complemented by L’Occitane toiletries. The room was well equipped with modern essentials, including a large flat screen TV. Finishing touches included delicious homemade shortbread biscuits.

The restaurant fully deserves its two AA Rosette status. Using local ingredients where possible, such as Lincolnshire fillet steak, the chef has created an excellent menu, with great detail given to presentation and preparation. My beef fillet was quite simply the best I have eaten. An extensive wine list offered us lots of choice and an opportunity to get the right match for our food and tastes.

Before eating we enjoyed a pre-dinner drink in the wonderfully cosy snug next to the bar – a great place place to relax and enjoy that well-earned G&T! The hotel has perfected an atmosphere of relaxed informality, alongside efficient customer service, enabling guests to feel at home. Although not quite warm enough to enjoy the outdoors, the hotel gardens were impressive, and with the first signs of spring daffodils and snowdrops, a delight to walk through.

We took the short ride to Lincoln during our stay to explore this famous city. Renowned for its gothic cathedral, and castle, the city has a wealth of attractions and excellent shopping. We were lucky enough to experience a guided tour in the cathedral helping us to understand its history, before we made our own way around the castle. We also viewed the famous Magna Carta manuscripts.
