The superb Nipa Thai restaurant

The Lancaster London is ideally located for access to many of London’s main attractions, either by walking, tube, or taxi, explains Peter Lewsey. With Hyde Park, the largest of the Royal Parks, directly to the south and vistas east to the City of London, it offers what must be among the best views in London. We stayed in an Executive Room on the 18th floor, which gave us full advantage of the panoramic views. The luxurious room offered a comfortable living area, with a picture window, an extremely comfortable queensize bed and all the necessary technology required to meet our needs, including a flat screen TV and high-speed Internet access.

The Lancaster offers a choice of two restaurants, Island Grill, which serves a selection of modern British and European dishes, and the Nipa Thai. Both have been awarded 2 AA Rosettes. We elected to dine in Nipa Thai, which has been awarded the ‘Thai
Select’ accreditation from the Thai Government, for its high culinary standards.

We were given expert advice on menu choices from the knowledgeable, friendly staff and decided to opt for Nongyao’s
Phad Thai, Kub Koong Mangkorn, a delicious lobster dish and stir fried scallops, with asparagus. Both platters were
outstanding, possessing magnificent depth of flavour and spiciness. Dinner was complemented by a bottle of Thai
wine, chosen specifically by the staff to enjoy with our dishes.
