They reckon it is a fine children’s attraction, writes Jean Butler.  I finally decided to visit with my two young children over the spring season and the recommendations are spot-on!

Hobbledown is based on a book of mystical tales written by A J Kecojevic.  The farm itself is located on a 50 acre site and the concept of the place is rather unique.  Children will adore the Hobbler’s houses and towers dotted around the farm.

Magical to me, was the fantastic variety of activities to keep my children entertained including imaginative outdoor equipment, a barn style restaurant providing great quality  ‘Hobblenosh’ offerings, overlooking an indoor play area (which proved very popular with both my 6 and 8 years old children).  It was good to see that bad weather days are never an obstacle to enjoying Hobbledown.

Also noted, was the impeccable manners and friendliness of the staff who greeted us at the reception area.  This certainly added to the ‘Hobbledown’ charm.

Although we enjoyed visiting the farm animals and the exotic species at Hobbledown, the biggest delight for my son was being allowed to handle the pet rats.  Yet again, the staff were polite and enthusiastic.

Another popular activity was navigating the exciting High Ropes and Aerial Walkways.  My son was delighted because it was challenging and fun.  I can really recommend this bit for families who worry about entertaining the older children in the family.

The top trump of our visit for my daughter was exploring in The Mining Village to discover ‘green crystallite’ hidden in the sand (clever idea).  For young discoverers the trade-back is to receive free lollipops in return for their efforts!  The village also has an array of mazes and tunnels.

It is worth noting that an exciting new Zorbing Arena is being launched during the May half-term break.  Suggested age is 7 years plus and it is good to see that the  activity is included in Hobbledown’s entrance ticket price.

I do like Hobbledown, it is super friendly, great fun for all of the family and certainly worth the ticket price at any time of the year.
